Street Children Family Reintegration Programme in Nicaragua

Wherever possible we work towards the reintroduction of children into their families. We work with families to improve communication, encourage active participation and responsibility amongst family members.

Our family reintegration and independent life programme arose from working with children who desired reconciliation with their families. Once children become stablised emotionally we have observed that there is a gradual process where children begin to develop a need to re-establish a bond with their family.

Our team first seek to understand any concerns from the children. We then track down families and begin to re-establish a bond with a programme to gradually strengthen family ties. This is sometimes a relatively short process but often involves longer term intervention.

Where family reintegration is not possible we work with children to provide them with the skills and training necessary to live an independent life and for them to successfully re-enter society.

School for Parents

The “School for Parents” is a psycho-educative programme directed at the parents of children and adolescents who are involved in our rehabilitation programmes at Casa Alianza. The aim of the school is to educate parents about the needs of their child and to educate about healthy eating, emotional support etc.

The Parent’s School is run by a team of professionals including social workers and psychologists and amongst other things deals with:

  • Problems of addiction
  • HIV / AIDS
  • Family Reintegration
