Legal Support for Street Children in Honduras

Defenselessness is one of the most serious consequences of being a street child. Many face violence or serious abuse.

Casa Alianza offers an active legal support programme dedicated towards the protection of child and adolescent rights. The programme has contributed significantly in the fight against the impunity enjoyed by those who violate the rights of childhood. Our children however continue to suffer violence, sexual abuse and are often murdered on the streets. Sadly society appears to remain largely indifferent.

Child Trafficking

Child trafficking for sexual exploitation is on the increase in Central America. Unscrupulous abusers and procurers have developed this activity into a lucrative business at the expense of those most vulnerable.

Casa Alianza continues to defend these children, we monitor the judicial process and investigate cases and provide legal protection to all abused minors.

Other Legal Services

We also carry out important work in helping children gain important documentation and assist children involved in judicial processes to ensure they receive justice.

Fighting for Children's Human Rights

Children continue to be exploited, abused and murdered in Honduras. We continue to actively denounce what is going on. We also campaign for change and to improve the image of these children who are generally stigmatized by society or even seen as a threat to civil security by the authorites. Some of the activities we have been involved in are listed below:

  • A campaign directed at work councils of the National Congress led to the approval of a legal draft designed to regulate the manufacture, sale and distribution of solvents (these are easy to acquire and lead to serious health and addiction problems in street children).
  • Casa Alianza has taken an active role in the protection and defence of children and adolescents with HIV and fought for their right to access health services.
  • Casa Alianza lobbied the National Congress and the Supreme Court of Justice in relation to the approval of reforms to laws concerning the penal code for sexual crimes.
  • We have demanded that the authorities take action over the growing number of extra-judicial executions of children and young people.
